About the Club
The Icelandic Chihuahua Club is a branch club from the Icelandic Kennel Club (HRFÍ) that was founded 18th of May in 2005. The object of the club is to stand guard of the breed and to direct breeding towards breed objectives accepted by the FCI, to be advisory and to possess knowledge of breeding and health issues that affect the breed.
In addition to this the club provides education seminars as well as Chi-walks where owners of the breed walk their dogs in the company of other breed enthusiasts.
History of the Chihuahua in Iceland
The first Chihuahua's were imported to Iceland from Scandinavia in the years 1994 and 1995. There are 7 dogs that make the foundation of the breed in Iceland. The first litter in Iceland was born at Brjansstadir in the year 1995 but from that time the breed became much more prominent but mostly the last few years as the stock has grown a lot with added importation and breeding.
